A Brief History of the Best Western Grosvenor Hotel

In the days that William Shakespeare was making this market town famous, the land on which the hotel now sits was agricultural land, once used as a nursery gardens, supplying plants to Queen Victoria.

When development first took place on the land between 1832 and 1843, numbers 12, 13 and 14 Warwick Road (which now comprise the Best Western Grosvenor Hotel) were built. Numbers 12 and 13 took the Regency design of the Victorian era and number 14 was designed in ‘a new trend in Victorian Architecture – more of an Elizabethan style’. The building is now Grade II listed to preserve the unique workmanship and design.

12, 13 and 14 Warwick Road were originally private homes of professional and prominent families in Stratford, before conversion to a Boarding House and subsequently private use as hotels and guest houses.

Paten Hotels acquired the Grosvenor Hotel in 1996 and have since completed a programme of extension and refurbishment. The Grosvenor Hotel was entered into the Best Western chain in 2005, for marketing purposes.
